Habitat: A sand volleyball court at a corporate industrial site in central
Connecticut (Photo N1). The industrial site is in a rural area and
surrounded by state forest consisting of oak / maple / beech / birch
woodlands – see Photo N2. (The woodlands is the overall habitat of this
animal; not the volleyball area.) It had rained very hard the previous
week, transforming the volleyball court into the ultimate "tracking
box"!

The footprint measures 4¾" wide by 5½" long, including
the rear toe. The stride here ranged from 7 to 12", and the
trail width was 6½". |

Photos N6 / N7 / N8 show a different area of the court – the animal is
moving faster here, and the tracks have a slightly different in
appearance in that the rear toe does not show. For these tracks, the
footprint measured 4¾" wide by 4" long, the stride ranged from 18 to
22", and the trail width was 9". |
